the FIFTEENTH annual 100 GRAND exhibition

THE EXHIBITION SALE BEGINS MONDAY, DECEMBER 4th at 9:00am

OPENING RECEPTION: 1st THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7th | FROM 5-8pm

Sullivan Goss is pleased to announce the FIFTEENTH annual 100 GRAND exhibition. Featuring 100 quality works of art for $1,000 or less, the exhibition has become an incubator of emerging talent, an entryway for beginning collectors, a holiday celebration in the art community, and an ever timely reminder that everyone’s life is improved by the addition of original works of art.

The works will go on sale MONDAY, DECEMBER 4th at 9:00am. Those who subscribe to the Gallery’s e-bulletin service will get a reminder. Everything will go live on the website at the same time that the doors open. Those who wish to inspect the work in person will be let in on that Monday at 9:00am sharp. Works will be alphabetized by artist last name and spaced apart to facilitate social distancing. Last year, the gallery was astonished to see that more than 60% of the exhibition SOLD on the first day. Collectors and fans are encouraged to plan accordingly.

100 GRAND will feature paintings, drawings, photographs, assemblage and sculpture by emerging and established artists that are priced to sell and sized (for the most part) to fit into smaller spaces. For this year’s exhibition, Contemporary Curator Susan Bush was able to secure work from many of last year’s best-selling artists, but there are over a dozen artists who have never participated in this annual exhibition, most of whom are new to the gallery.

With 100 GRAND, new and younger collectors can begin to acquire and learn about original art from a serious gallery at an affordable price. With emerging artists, collectors get an opportunity to “get in on the ground floor.” For the gallery’s regular roster of successful, mid-career artists, collectors get an opportunity to buy works below market rate. For these reasons, sales are usually brisk. Since it’s first come first serve, buyers are encouraged to arrive early and to act fast.

Silo Gallery presents INTERMUNDIUM: Space Between Worlds

SANTA BARBARA, CA — Silo Gallery is delighted to announce the upcoming exhibition, "INTERMUNDIUM: Space Between Worlds," featuring the work of three remarkable and established Santa Barbara artists: Barbara Parmet, Dug Uyesaka, and Rafael Perea de la Cabada. The exhibition will take place from November 28 to December 4, 2023, with a special reception on December 1, from 4 pm to 8 pm.

INTERMUNDIUM: Space between worlds explores the imaginative spaces beyond the sensory world, where these three visionary artists navigate, mediate, and share their fantastic visions.

Barbara Parmet, known for her photographic constructions, weaves human, animal, and planetary imagery into imaginary landscapes using a blend of new and antique technologies. Her work has been exhibited and collected internationally, and she has been featured in renowned publications such as Le Monde, Conde Nast Traveler, Black and White Magazine, and Inquiring Mind. Rafael Perea de la Cabada is an award-winning artist and educator born in Mexico City. He earned a degree from the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Printmaking in Mexico City and an M.F.A. in Printmaking from UCSB. 5×5: Westmont College Celebrating 85 Years

Art Museum Goes Big with 675 Small Works

By Scott Craig | November 14, 2023

The Westmont Ridley-Tree Museum of Art’s most popular exhibition and fundraiser returns to Montecito on Nov. 30 to Dec. 15, offering viewers an opportunity to see and bid on more than 675, small five-inch-square works by regional, national, and international artists. The museum hosts a free, public opening reception on Thursday, Nov. 30, from 4 to 6 pm.

All of the artwork in 5×5: Westmont College Celebrating 85 Years is available for purchase through an online auction that ends at 5 pm Friday, Dec. 15. Find auction details, artwork images, artist bios, and bidding instructions at westmont.edu/museum/5×5.

Well-known artists Chuck Arnoldi, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, Tim Hawkinson, Billy Al Bengston, Lesley Dill, and Rae Dunn have submitted works. Local favorites John Nava, Wesley Anderegg, Bill Dewey, Dane Goodman, Marie Schoeff, Dug Uyesaka, Linda Ekstrom, Inga Guzyte, Mary Heebner and Rafael Perea de la Cabada have also contributed. There are also works from Westmont faculty and alumni, including Tony AskewTony, Susan Savage, Alyssa Beccue, John Carlander, Alexa Goglanian, Nathan Huff, Scott Anderson, and Madeline Lush.

Chris Rupp, curator and collections manager, started the 5×5 exhibition in 2011 as a friend-raiser and fundraiser held in conjunction with college or museum anniversaries every three to five years. Rupp says the exhibition has grown in popularity, and he receives inquiries about when the next one will be held from people throughout California. “It’s a great opportunity to see the creativity of hundreds of artists from across the country all in the gallery at once,” he says. “It’s a visual feast for the eyes!”

Judy L. Larson, Askew professor of art history and museum director, thanked Rupp and Ella Jennings, outreach and education coordinator, for their assistance in mailing each artist a square of Rives BFK paper and then photographing and cataloging each piece that’s returned. “A huge ‘thank you’ to those artists who have so generously taken the time to support arts education at Westmont by donating their wonderful creations again this year,” Larson says.

The last day to see Straddling Circumference… The Art of Linda Ekstrom is Saturday, Nov. 11, from 11 am to 5 pm.
